Well it finally happened, my bad knee got really bad. Not really sure what is wrong with it but I have had a problem since June and have tried to run through it, rest it, add extra support to it and medicate it all to avail. Last week the wheels came off. I ran on Tuesday and actually felt pretty good but afterwards I got the point where I couldn't walk up stairs. I had no strength in my left knee and was in a lot of pain. Clearly maintaining the status quo wasn't going to work anymore. My body was telling there was a problem but I wasn't listening. I got away with it for awhile but eventually the messages my body was giving me became to much to ignore (at least to painful to ignore). I needed to change my plans and take proactive steps to address my knee issues if I wanted to keep running.
Planning to go to the Doctor and figure out what is next. Fingers crossed.

Michael,
Years ago (many) I was training for a community 5K run--a first for me. Little by little I was able to increase my distance until one day I felt particularly good--felt like I was just cruising, almost floating along, effortlessly--that I found that I had run about 7 miles by the time I got back home. That was a new record (by far) for me.
I was surprised--shocked really--that once home suddenly I couldn't go up stairs. That was the end of running for me. Didn't go to the doctor and my knees seemed to improve over time. But I never ran again. I felt that a message had been delivered to me.
I think you are wise to see a doc. I know you have been a faithful and responsible runner for a long time and it would be a shame for you face a serious permanent injury.
Don't forget you are responsible for the body "Old Michael" will have to live in years from now! A little gentleness now may pay big comfort dividends later...
;-)
Good luck my friend.
